Opportunities at Rangitikei
Welcome to the Rangitikei District Council's employment information page. We could tell you Rangitikei is a diverse region and we provide essential services like road maintenance, libraries, recreation areas and subdivisions. But you probably already know that.
Better that we tell you that we're a small team, working closely together, and staff have real diversity in the breadth of projects they'll get involved in, and the skills they learn.
There is a high level of trust between managers and staff, and we don't just talk about being flexible - we really are! Tell us the arrangements that work for you - in terms of hours, working from home - what you're looking for from your next employer.
We have endeavoured to provide you with the necessary information to assist your application and your interview, should you be shortlisted for a position with the Council.

The Interview
Applicants shortlisted for an interview can expect to meet an interview panel of three staff members, including the manager of the position being filled.
Most of the questions will be based on the 'behavioural event' format and drawn from the key result areas and your competencies specified in the job description. This means that you should come prepared to draw on your past experience to illustrate the skills and abilities you have that fit you for the role. So expect the majority of the questions to start with "Tell me about a time when . . . . " or Give me an example of your ability to. . . . "
As a general rule, the best way to manage this type of questioning is to use the "SOAR" technique. This means you structure your answer by starting with a brief description of the Situation you were given or faced with, followed by Options you considered, the Actions you took and finishing with the Results of those actions.
All applicants will be asked the same base questions but the follow up questions could vary depending on the initial response.
And remember: there is no substitute for preparation, so research the District Council and the topics of the moment affecting the Rangitikei.
Expect the interview to be approximately one hour in duration. It will finish with an opportunity for you to ask questions of the panel. This is a good time for you to demonstrate your interest in the role and the Rangitikei generally.
